Math Program

We are already working in our new math workbooks and all of us are excited about the fabulous math kits that go along with the new program.

First Graders are learning to write addition number sentences using a variety of manipulatives to show the addends and sums! Math vocabulary is an integral part of this program also, so you should see hear some very mathematical language this year!

You can help your child by asking them to write all of the ways to make a number using an addition sentenAni_thinkingcapce.

For example : Make 9 as many ways as you can.

6+3=9    2+7=9    1+8=9     9+0=9    7+2=9    4+5+9  ETC..

WELCOME to FIRST GRADE

Our first week in room 805 went very well. The students are learning the new routine and seem very excited about taking care of their own desk! You will be amazed to see how your child grows this year.Anischl_2

Be sure to look for your child's "happy-face" folder each day. There will be a short written homework assignment Mon.-Thurs., which should be returned the next day. If your child brings a paper booklet or book, please listen to them read it. Next month your child will bring home a reading calendar to keep track of the minutes they spend reading each day. First graders are expected to read at least 15 minutes as a part of their daily homework routine. Thanks so much for helping your child get off to a great start this year!
