Read Across America ~ March 3-7

Read_across_america_2_3 Ten years ago NEA (National Education Association) and its members started a reading revolution.  It began with a one-day celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March 2, and has now become a year-round literacy campaign reaching nearly every home, school, and community.

Mt. Bethel Elementary is supporting NEA’s Read Across America Program by challenging each grade level to reach a reading goal during the week of March 3 - 7

Newell Recycling Challenge ~ Wraps up March 15th

Recycle_challenge_3 Mt. Bethel is once again competing in the Newell Recycling Challenge!   The three local schools that collect the most aluminum cans by March 15 will win a free Sea World/Bush Gardens live animal presentation in the spring as well as a cash prize!  So bring us your cans, and your neighbors’ cans, and your office’s cans - as many as you CAN collect!

We need everybody’s help to win the contest and bring this exciting opportunity to our students!

Exceptional Children's Awareness ~ March 17-21

Ecsa_3 Like the Hannah Montana song says … “Everybody makes mistakes! Everybody has those days! Nobody’s perfect!” This is the theme for Exceptional Children’s Awareness Week, which is March 17 – 21.

Our goal is to remind the Mt. Bethel community that it’s okay to be different. Each of us is different in some way, but we are more alike than different! Differences make us who we are. Nobody’s perfect!

Activities to raise awareness and understanding during the week will include a puppet show called The Kids on the Block, a video displayed on the closed circuit TV system, a parent workshop on Dyslexia, fun activities during specials...and much more!

More detailed information regarding Exceptional Children’s Awareness Week will be provided in the coming weeks. Contact Karen Greene or Kari Squire with any questions.

The Fingerprinting Program, sponsored by Cobb County's Sheriff's Office, provides a 7 x 8 paper identification card with all of your child's fingerprints for free. No permanent record of these cards is maintained by the Sheriff's Office or Mt. Bethel. The completed cards will be sent to your home.

Please look for flyers in your child's Thursday folders the week of March 10!  Questions may be referred to Judy Marek.

“Stock the Pantry” Food Drive ~ March 24-28

Easy_macWe will be collecting healthy, “do-it-yourself” breakfast and lunch items for the students at Powers Ferry Elementary because …

  • Ninety-two percent of the students are on “free or assisted lunch.”
  • Many of the students also have their breakfast at school.
  • Most of the students’ parents will be at work while they are home during spring break.

We will also need volunteers to collect and distribute the food. Watch for the flyer (coming soon) about how you can help feed the children of Powers Ferry during spring break.

Bins will be located by the front doors of Mt. Bethel Elementary. Place gift cards in an envelope marked Mt. Bethel PTA Community Outreach.

Click here for a flier with more information and suggested items.

Please contact Susan Thrash, Community Outreach Chair, to find out how you can help.
