March Cultural Arts News

Eric_litwin The Cultural Arts Program had wonderful performers this past month!  A great storyteller, Eric Litwin, came out and had the kids in suspense the entire time.  Many of you inquired about him, and he offers a CD of his work, if anyone is interested, atGlass_harp_2 www.ericlitwin.com!

We also had fascinating musician, Brien Engel, who played a glass harp, which he constructed out of a variety of glasses, and showed the many ways we can make music out of household items!  Click here to view a great article about him done by the PBS station.

It's Butterfly Time!

Painted_lady On April 18 the PTA Science Enrichment Committee will deliver jars of caterpillars to more than 30 teachers throughout the school, as well as butterfly cottages to teachers who do not already have habitats from previous years. About three weeks later, all of these caterpillars will become beautiful Painted Lady butterflies. After the butterflies spend a week or so in their classroom cottages eating sugar water and fruit, the classes will release them outside so that they can lay eggs and continue their life cycle.

To learn more about the butterflies, contact Nancy Brener, Science Enrichment Chair.
