Parent Protection Act: HB 901
There are several tax proposals out there, but one bill has been the focus of PTA input for two years!
Under the Parent Protection Act, employers must allow employees to take unpaid leave, up to 24 hours annually, without fear of retaliation to respond to an invitation from the school for a conference or for medical appointments for themselves, their children, or their close
relatives. Schools and day care centers must provide 3 days notice of such conferences.
NOTE: HB 901 was heard in committee on February 7th and assigned to a subcommittee for further hearings! Karen Hallacy, Georgia PTA Legislative Chair, spoke for the bill.
