Junie B. Jones Field Trip February 8! We can't wait!
HELP! Please don't forget - NO NUTS! We have a child with a nut allergy. Please remember this when you choose a snack for your child each morning! Imagine how you would feel if your own child had this allergy. THANK YOU! Math facts - Keep practicing!
I sent home your CRCT on-line directions. The CRCT on-line is very good CRCT practice. Your child has a user name and password. The CRCT is given to all first grade students (and all elementary students) in Georgia. The children will take this test in April. The test is over the skills that we do in school. The most difficult part of this test is the wording. The skills are not always tested in the way practice. It will make this experience much less stressful for your child. It is also a great review of the first grade skills. I will assign tests as homework each week. There are tests for reading, math, and language arts. Please work with your child to complete one of each per week. Just begin with first grade test 1 in each subject and continue to complete them in order. There are also pre-made tests made by the web site. Those are great extra practice. IMPORTANT NOTE: The questions will be read to the students during the real test. You may read the questions to the children. On the reading portion of the test, the children must read the selections on their own. However, you may read the questions and the answer choices to the children. You'll be surprised that they can still answer many of the questions even if they aren't able to read every word! THANKS!
MONEY TIME! We're still studying money.
OPTIONAL REPORT - Due Feb. 8
The reports have been fabulous! The children are learning from one another and I am thrilled with the creative reports, books, posters, etc. The next report should have something to do with the 2006 Winter Olympics or the history of the Olympics. It can be about a sport, an athlete, or even about Turin, Italy. It can be as detailed or as simple as you feel appropriate for your child! Of course, it is optional! It will be due on February 8. This way, the children will learn about the Olympics before they begin on February 10.
CHOICE #2 - We have been studying penguins, polar bears, killer whales, and other animals who live in very cold climates! If your child would rather do a report about an animal from Antarctica or the North Pole, that would be great!
Friday is the 100th day of school. I think it will be a GREAT day! The children will rotate to each first grade classroom for a 100th day activity! The children will get to spend fifteen minutes with each first grade teacher. THANKS for the snacks for our 100th day snack mix!
Valentine's Day - Please send cards for either all of the class or none at all! We don't want any hurt feelings. I will send home a list.
Your child should decorate a shoebox at home. Please make a large opening on top and keep the lid wrapped separately so that the box can be opened! Thanks. This is due on Monday, February 13.
