October News from the Nurse

Please remember that a parent or guardian needs to bring all medication to the Clinic with thePaperwork_nurse appropriate paperwork. Forms and complete rules are on line at
http://www.cobbk12.org/centraloffice/adminrules/J_Rules/Rule%20JLCD.htm

Please do not send any medication to school with your child unless you bring it to the Clinic with the appropriate paperwork. We will not be able to administer it. We already have a shortage of clothing in the Clinic. Please promptly return the borrowed clothing (cleaned) back to the Clinic. I hate to leave children in soiled clothing or make them wait until a parent can come to school with a change of clothes.

Halloween_ghostie Halloween is quickly approaching, and I wanted to offer some safety tips to help insure that Halloween is safe without interfering with your children's enjoyment:
Treats
• Encourage children to wait until they return home before eating any treats.
• Inspect the treats and throw out any with torn or unsealed wrappers.
• Homemade treats should be discarded.
• Report any suspicious treats to your local police.
Trick or Treating
• Younger children should always be accompanied by an adult.
• Set curfews for older children.
• Go to homes of neighbors you know.
• Keep pets indoors.
Costumes
• Check masks to be sure children can see and breathe easily.
• Costumes should be flame-resistant and short enough to prevent tripping.
• Purchase face paints, glues, and glitters made of nontoxic materials. Be aware that
some children can have allergic reactions to these products.
Most importantly, have fun! I am here for your children, for their medical needs, and
their need for basic TLC. Please stop by the Clinic any time to introduce yourself.

Welcome back to school Mt. Bethel students!

Nurse5 Hi! My name is Cindy Steuer and I am a registered nurse. I am thrilled to be back again as your school nurse! Please feel free to come by the clinic and introduce yourselves or just say hello. Please let me know if your child(ren) have any special health needs/concerns so I can be prepared to help. Please be aware that the clinic is not permitted by the Cobb County School District to administer any medications to your child unless a parent or guardian completes the appropriate paper work and brings the paperwork and medicine into the clinic. Please do not send any medications, including over the counter medications, with your child via his/her backpack, or otherwise, to school. We will have to confiscate it and will not be able to administer it. All medication must be brought into the clinic, in its original container, by a parent or guardian. I am here in the clinic daily from 8:00am until 2:30pm to take care of your child's medical needs.

As always, we appreciate all donations made to the clinic. We can always use and greatly appreciate any of the following supplies:
♦ Band-Aids
♦ tissues
♦ paper towels
♦ 5 oz. paper cups
♦ Gatorade (small bottles)
♦ cans of ginger ale
♦ Ziploc sandwich baggies

Time to Pick Up Medication!

Dear Parents,

The end of the 2005-2006 school year is upon us, so now is the time to pick up your child's medications. All over-the-counter medications (Tylenol, Motrin, etc.) must be picked up the week of May 15-19. Starting May 24, any medication remaining at school will be disposed of.This requirement, however, does not apply to epi-pens, inhalers, and any daily prescription medication. These medications shall be kept in the clinic until May 26 (the last day of school), at which point they must be picked up. Remember, medications can only be released to parents. No medications will be released to the students directly., please return any borrowed clothing back toclinic so we can inventory our supply for next year.

It has been a pleasure to serve as your child's nurse during the 2005-2006 school year.I wish you all a fun, restful, and healthy summer vacation, and I look forward to seeing you all again for the 2006-2007 school year.

April News from the Nurse

Sneezingflower Allergy season is quickly approaching us here in Atlanta, so please be sure to supply any allergy medications necessary to keep your child comfortable during school hours. We want to minimize the number of phone calls made to parents during the school day.Our goal is to keep all kids in school, when at all possible.I would be glad to keep in the clinic any medicines your child may need during school hours. Just stop by and fill out the appropriate paperwork.

Thank you so much for all the donations of clinic supplies. The clinic is now well stocked and should be for a while.

Please be sure to return all borrowed clothing to the clinic. This will help assure that we have ample clothing available for any child who might need a change of clothing during school hours.

With the many end-of-the-year field trips scheduled, I am trying to organize the medications that need to accompany your child on these trips. For each trip, I plan to send the necessary emergency medications, such as benadryl, epi-pens, and glucagon, but if you feel your child will need another medicine to accompany him/her on a particular field trip, please call me at the clinic and let me know. I will be glad to send any such medications with the accompanying teacher.

As always, please keep me advised of any illness your child may encounter that you feel the Mt. Bethel family may want to be aware of.Our goal is to keep everybody healthy!

I am here in the clinic from 8:00am to 2:45pm for all your health concerns.  Please feel free to stop by any time and visit.

March News from the Nurse!

Since the winter break, I have seen a lot of students with complaints of sore throats, usually accompanied by cold symptoms, and complaints of stomachaches.  In most cases, these symptoms have been devoid of fever.  Please monitor your children at home for complaints of these symptoms and call your family doctor to rule out any possible underlying medical cause.

I have also received reports of a few cases of strep throat.  Please keep me informed of any confirmed diagnoses of strep so I can inform those people necessary to ensure the well-being of the student/teacher population.

Thank_you_md_clr_1 Since my supplies for the clinic are dwindling as the year progresses, I would gladly welcome donations of any of the following:

·         Saltine crackers

·         Cans of ginger ale

·         Small bottles of Gatorade

·         5 oz. paper cups

·         3 oz. paper cups

·         Paper towels

·         Band-Aids

·         Ziploc sandwich bags

Finally, please remember to return all borrowed clothing in a timely manner as our supply is limited.

As always, I'm here for your children's health needs and my clinic door is always open during school hours.

December/January Notes from the Nurse

Female_doctor_writting_a_good_bill_of_he_1 I wish the entire

Mt.

Bethel

family a very happy holiday season!

Keeping your children safe during the holidays and throughout the year is important. Here are safety tips for parents:

TOY SAFETY:

·         Follow recommended ranges on toy packages. Toys that are too advanced could be a safety hazard for younger children.

·         Check the size of the toy and make sure there are no parts that could be swallowed.

·         Before buying a toy or allowing your child to play with a toy that he has received as a gift, read the instructions carefully. If the toy is appropriate for your child, show him how to use it properly.

OUTDOOR FUN:

·         Make sure your child's gloves and shoes stay dry. If either becomes wet, change your child into a dry pair.

·         Most skiing and skating injuries involve twists, sprains and strains. Prevent injuries by providing your child with competent instruction, proper equipment and appropriate supervision.

HOLIDAY

DECORATIONS:

·         Your tree or other large decorative objects should be firmly secured. Placing your tree in a wide based stand will help prevent it from falling over if bumped into or pulled by your child or even your pet. Also be careful about where you place the ornaments on your tree; they may find their way into the mouths or around the necks of young children or in the way of a wagging tail.

·         Gathering your family and friends around a crackling fire, or burning a lot of candles in a room to create a warm atmosphere is inviting, but also presents a safety concern. Always use a fireplace screen when burning a fire and keep young children and pets away from burning fires or flames.

·         Place your holiday decorations away from burning candles and don't let candles burn when you're out of the room.

·         Fire safety also includes keeping your tree well watered and clearing out any dry needles.

·         Several flowers and plants commonly used as decorations can be dangerous. For example, the berries found on holly sprigs and mistletoe are poisonous if eaten. If you have young children or pets, check with your florist to see if there are safety issues.

I am still accepting donations of supplies for the clinic. Remember, please do not send any medications into school with your student! All medications must be brought to the clinic by a parent.

I am here for your children, for their medical needs, and their need for basic TLC.
