Our Winter Workshop/Economics Unit began last week. My "employees" worked on their "products" to earn top "wages" which will be used to  purchase craft items for family members. Vocabulary includes: needs, wants, producers, consumers, opportunity cost, and productivity.  Market Day will be this week. This is when students get to be consumers and purchase items they produced in the Workshop, as well as crafts from the other classrooms!

Thank you for remembering my birthday before Thanksgiving break.- You all made it very special with the cookie cake, flowers, gift and cards!

Here we go!

 

 

We are learning...

• Reader's Workshop- We begin the year by discussing folktales, working on the short a vowel sound and blends. We are learning procedures for handling books in the classroom.  
• Writer's Workshop- This week we will learn rules and routines for Writer's Workshop.  We will also define "personal narrative" and list ideas for writing.
• Math- We will discuss place value and represent & compare numbers up to 999. 
• Social Studies- We are learning about map skills and using a compass rose to help find directions on maps of Georgia and the United States.
• Health- We will discuss Nutrition by deciding if our snacks are healthy or junk food.

Thanks to all parents who attended Back to School Night. It was great meeting each of you and sharing my procedures and expectations for Second Grade. Thank you also for sending in the forms and classroom donations.

The first week was filled with fun "Back to School and Meet Your New Classmates" activities. We discussed classroom and schoolwide procedures and routines such as "Paws Up!" and "1,2,3 Line!"
