Important Dates and Reminders:

2. Class Picnic: We will have a class picnic on Octoberr 3rd from 11:00-11:45 in the Outdoor classroom. You may bring lunch for your child or purchase a lunch at school. More information to come.
3. Behavior Folders: These were sent home today. It explains your children behavior throughout the past two weeks. If there is nothing marked, your child is making excellent choices. If there is a minus, it is something your child and I are still working on. Please check the folder for important information regarding sight words requirements for first grade and a math homework packet!
4.Also, there has been a schedule change!!! We will go to recess from 11:40-12:00 and have read aloud from 12:00-12:25. It worked out better to flip flop. I am so thankful the students were flexible!
5. Sally Foster was sent home last week. I hope the fundraising is going well.
6. Homework: Your child got a math homeworkd packet today. Please work on it throughout the following week. This is a review of concepts we have gone over or will be next week. This is to help prepare your child for the math assessment on TUESDAY.
Next week, we'll be learning...
Reader's Workshop: will be continuing to practice the 5 Finger Rule- which will help us choose books that are on our reading level. We will also discuss book boxes and how to record our daily reading in a reading log.
Writer's Workshop: We are continuing to share our "Memory Bags" that will be kept in your student's Writing Notebook. We will focus on additional Writer's Workshop routines and begin drafting instruction along with "stretching" out words.
Math Workshop: We will finish Chapter One of our math book. We will have our test on TUESDAY over Chapter One- Addition Concepts. Subtraction will begin on Wednesday and through the use of picture books, we will explore this concept together.
Phonics: Word Wall Words: for, can, at, my, the. We will also discuss the "an" spelling pattern as seen in the words: can, man, tan, fan, etc. The lowercase letters, s, f, b, l, and t will be covered in our handwriting books.
Science/SS: We will discuss our country and our earth. Please practice your child's home address. We will be learning and writing our home address next week.
Last but certainly not least,
Thank you for attending Open House this past Tuesday. I know how busy it is the first week of school and with a new schedule for many families, I was so pleased to have everyone in attendance. Please return the forms that require parent/student signatures and keep the classroom information handy for future reference.
