WEEK OF MARCH 3 - MARCH 7

Books_animatedWe have had fun with Read Across America this week.  We spent some quality time with our book buddies on Tuesday sharing Dr. Seuss stories.  The children also had an opportunity today to visit several other first grade classrooms.  In those classes they heard three Dr. Seuss stories which were accompanied by related activities.

Drawing_tools_animatedDuring computer lab this week, the class was introduced to the latest version of the Kip Pix drawing program.  They absolutely loved being able to explore the vast amount of drawing tools and options which this program offers.

Test_results_animatedI have had many requests for the CRCT website information that was sent earlier this year.  I have recopied these letters and they are coming home today in your child's Thursday packet.  Look out for a bright blue paper. Please hold onto this important information as it is necessary for your child to be able to access the practice tests. These tests are written in the same format as the CRCT and, by practicing, the children become more comfortable and confident when faced with the real tests.  It would be helpful if you reviewed the results with your child to clarify any concepts that are presenting difficulty to him/her.

Clock_aminated_2Today's math packet is Chapter 20.  We have started work on telling time.  We are focusing on the hour and the half hour. In addition to time we will also be working on reading and interpreting graphs. We have worked on this concept throughout this year.  Continued reinforcement with money and practicing telling time at home would be very beneficial to the children.

Fish_animatedOur field trip to the Georgia Aquarium is this coming Monday. The Aquarium has very specific guidelines so please review them with your children.  The students must wear P.E. shoes.  No flip flops, heelies, boots or sandals are permitted.  Children are also not permitted to bring cameras. Chaperones, however, may do so.  Please remember to have your child wear his/her class t-shirt for this special trip. We will be eating lunch at school when we return in the afternoon. Please send in a LARGE snack for your student to eat before we leave.

Clock_animated Don't forget to set your clocks ahead and spring forward this weekend.
