Mrs. Irvin's Chicks
2005 Grant...still benefiting students!
Dear Mt. Bethel Foundation,
Thanks to the Foundation, every spring, my class uses an incubator to hatch chicken eggs! The project is one that the children never forget!
They use their math, science, social studies and language arts skills to track every step of the project, from learning about how chicks grow in eggs, how farms are different from towns, how we can chart and record the days remaining to "hatch day," to using descriptive "science" language when writing about our chicks. And, of course, the most exciting event is actually watching chicks hatch, and getting to hold a baby chick!
We had an old incubator that we'd used for about 6 years. It was starting to show its age, and we were concerned that it would break down mid-project! The MBESF funded Science Instructor and I wrote a grant for two new incubators so that we could do this project simultaneously, and we received two new incubators from our wonderful Foundation!
Thanks to our Foundation, our children can experience this miracle of nature - something that they may never see anywhere else in this day and age!
Thank you, Mt. Bethel Foundation!!
