The Mt. Bethel Elementary School Foundation:

1) FUNDS Classroom Enrichment Curriculum

Over half of our funding is used to provide salaries for classroom

instructors and materials for three enrichment curriculums:

Science:  Each child at Mt. Bethel attends science enrichment classes that reinforce concepts learned in the classroom through lab work,

projects and experimentation.  Read more about our new science lab

instructor by clicking HERE.

Performing Arts:  Each child attends Performing Arts classes to

develop poise, self-confidence, public speaking skills and a commitment to achieve at one’s own personal best. J0433070

Technology:  Our technical instructor teaches computer skills such as keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, and power point in the computer lab and laptop lab.  Teachers sign up for lab time as needed.

2) GRANTS To TeachersJ0401195_2

Teacher grants are awarded each year in response to requests submitted by Mt. Bethel teachers.  Grant funding is used for a variety of resources, including:  educational software, subscriptions to educational websites, equipment, curriculum materials, robotics kits — even incubators for the little baby chicks in our science lab!

3)   SPONSORS After-School Extension Programs

MBESF sponsorship allows fee-based, after-school programs to operate at Mt. Bethel.  A percentage of the participation fee is retained by the Foundation.  Current programs include:

Blake Cooper Productions, Inc.: This drama program is offered to 2nd and 3rd graders in the fall and 4th & 5th graders in the winter/spring.  The program is separate from the in-school performing arts

program.

Kid Chess:  This program offers several classes a week for all grade levels.J0308962

Spanish:  Spanish language instruction is offered to 1st-5th graders.  Students meet in the fall and spring, twice a week for 12 weeks.

4)       SPONSORS Science Olympiad Competition

This is the Foundation’s third year of sponsorship of the Science

Olympiad at Mt. Bethel.  Mt. Bethel hosts a meet of Science Olympiad teams from neighboring schools.  The meet is an excellent way to

involve our entire Mt. Bethel community in celebrating the wonders of science and to promote science enrichment.J0433183

5) SUPPLEMENTS Technology Enhancements

As detailed in our recent Foundation Council update, the Foundation’s longstanding commitment to technology enrichment has

recently reaped huge results because of the ROWS project.  ROWS (Refreshing Obsolete Work Stations) is an initiative by the

Cobb County School District to replace computers that are over three years old.  As part of this initiative, Mt. Bethel recently

received 418 new Dell computers for our classrooms, Media Center, computer lab, laptop lab and mobile carts.  Because the

Foundation has purchased so many computers for our school during recent years, we received over 100 additional new computers above and beyond what would otherwise have been replaced.  In addition, the Foundation recently approved the purchase of

8 additional SMARTBoards so that every 5th grade classroom is equipped with one and all of the remaining classrooms have

access to one that is portable.
