What is the Mt. Bethel Elementary School Foundation?

The Mt. Bethel Elementary School Foundation (MBESF) is an educational, non-profit public foundation, established in 1994 to provide resources to enhance Mt. Bethel’s ability to create rich educational experiences for all students.

To date, the MBESF has invested over $800,000 towards the enrichment of Mt. Bethel students!

Science Olympiad!
On March 8th, Mt. Bethel hosted the annual Cobb County Science Olympiad.  Eleven Cobb County school s sent fourteen teams for a total of over 250 students!!Mt. Bethel's two teams won five gold medals, three silver medals and four bronze medals!  Way to go, Mt. Bethel!

In May our team of coaches, Mr. Morris, Coach Jones, Ms. Griffin, Mr. Mari and Ms. Wallenshauser, will take our two teams to compete at the State Science Olympiad at Kennesaw State University!

Giveaway Winners!
As promised, MBESF gave away prime parking spots and the right to name the school's street sign.  The drawing took place at our annual meeting in February.  The lucky winners are, Glenn Turner, Candy Kimbrough-Green, and Denise Hudson.  Street sign, Robin Watson.

Patron Program Participation Awards
This year, three classes tied for highest patron program participation!  All three teachers were surprised with a getaway!! Mrs. Osburn-Seabrook Island, SC, Ms. Cillian-Lake Oconee, GA, and Ms. Harden-Whisper Lake, NC!  Congratulations!!

With an annual donation of $110 per child, you continue to give your child the well-rounded education they deserve!  

The Foundation accepts tax-deductible individual donations, employee-matching grants, charitable organization grants, and corporate donations.

80% of the Foundation budget is covered by the Patron Program (i.e. parent donations).  Additional funds are raised thru proceeds from Foundation sponsored after-school programs, Birdies for Charity, and Corporate Matching.

Microscope Teacher grants are awarded each year in response to grant requests submitted by Mt. Bethel teachers. These grants requests can be for individual classroomsScholastic_keys, for an entire grade level, or for cross-grade level projects.

Technology Supplements were the basis for the formation of the Mt. Bethel Foundation. We have purchased computers, network enhancements, software, and peripherals. Each year a significant portion of our budget is allotted to provide various technologies to our students.

What Enrichment Curriculum does the MBESF Fund?

More than half of MBESF donations fund three enrichment curriculums, including teacher salaries and classroom equipment.

Specials_2Enrichment Programs: (Click links for more info)

  • Performing Arts: Students develop life skills such as poise, self-confidence, public speaking and a commitment to achieve at one's own personal best!
  • Science: The curriculum of each grade level dictates the science lab experiments which reinforces concepts learned in the classroom.
  • Technology: Our technical instructor teaches computer skills such as keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, and power point in the computer lab and laptop lab. Teachers sign up for lab time as needed.

What Extra Curricular Programs does the MBESF Sponsor?

After-School Extension Programs

MBESF sponsorship allows fee-based, after-school programs to operate at Mt. Bethel. 10% of the participation fee is retained by the Foundation. 

Current programs include:

  • Blake Cooper Productions, Inc: This drama program is offered to 2nd and 3rd graders in the fall and 4th and 5th graders in the winter/spring. This program is separate from the in-school performing arts program.
  • Kid Chess: This program offers several classes a week for all grade levels.
  • Spanish: Spanish language instruction is offered to 1st thru 5th graders. Students meet in the fall and spring, twice a week for 12 weeks.

Science Olympiad Competition

This is the Foundation's third year of sponsorship for the Science Olympiad at Mt. Bethel. Mt. Bethel hosts a meet of Science Olympiad teams from neighboring schools. The meet is an excellent way to involve our entire Mt. Bethel community in celebrating the wonders of science and promote science enrichment.
