THROWING & CATCHING

5th grade students need to be able to catch and throw a size appropriate football, tennis ball and a frisbee by the time they leave Mt. Bethel. Throwing and catching distance needs to be at least 25 feet apart.

5th and 4th grade students will do lots of throwing and catching this year during game situations and with personal challenges.

3rd grade students will get lots of practice throwing and catching with targets and partners to be ready for team games in the 4th grade.

JUGGLING CLUB

Great progrees so far with jugglers on Wednesday morning! If you would like to join the Wednesday morning jugglers, you must be able to toss & catch scarves for 20 throws. We have practiced this in class. You might also remember that you can use plastic bags with the handles cut off to practice at home.

If you would like to purchase juggling equipment, try jugglebug.com or Eddie's Trick SHop on the MArietta Square.

Look for a t-shirt order form coming home in the next 2 weeks for anyone interested.

GOAL SETTING

Have you ever set a goal to see if you can make the goal?  For example, if you wanted to save enough money to buy something you saved your money. If you wanted to score a certain number of baskets at your basketball game, you might practice at home on your shooting. What kind of goals can you think of that you might set with your fitness? Here are some fitness components you might consider: heart & lung endurance , muscle endurance, upper body strength, abdominal strength & endurance, flexibility and agility.

HOCKEY VOCABULARY WORDS

FITNESS is the FOCUS

This week we are focusing on upper body strength and endurance. Grades 3rd, 4th & 5th have participated in a Fitness Survivor Challenge which has included the climbing wall, jump rope, curl-ups, hurdles and other strengthening exercises. We are also finishing our pre-test fitness assessments so we can set fitness goals for the year.

Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd are learning the arm hang and pull-up, climbing wall and scooter exercises.

The plan is to be inside for another week for my classes.

Ultimate Koosh

Ultimate Koosh is a game we play that is modeled after Ultimate Frisbee. We use the koosh ball because it is easier to catch and won't roll away. This game is very fast moving game with lots of opportunity to learn offense and defensive strategies. The koosh ball is moved to the end zone to score only by throwing and catching. We have been playing on the bus lane with small teams of 3 or 4 per team.
