News for December 2-5
I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving break. Having the entire week was certainly nice! We have a busy 3 weeks ahead of us. I want to give you some highlights.
On Thursday, I will be sending a note home about our annual Caring & Sharing collection. This is money that we ask students and teachers to donate to provide an extra something to thank our custodians, lunchroom ladies, lunch monitors, and nurse. Any amount would be appreciated! Donations will be collected through Dec. 12. Cash is great. If you make out a check, it needs to be made out to CASH. These staff members work so hard all year, and each is always very appreciative of our gift. I am co-chair of this activity, so you can imagine how much I support it!
Fifth grade usually collects toys for a worthy charity this time of year. Due to the lack of food in our local homeless shelters, they have decided to collect canned goods. This will be from now till Dec. 12. Imagine if each child brought one can of food, we could donate almost 1,000 cans of food! Please send these in, too!
We will be building candy houses the last week before winter break. Each child needs to bring a can of prepared vanilla frosting and a CLEAN, DRY pint container-such as half and half or whipping cream comes in. Also, many of the children volunteered to bring "building materials". Please ask your child about this, so that you can help us out. If it is a problem, please let me know. ALL materials need to be at school by the 12th, please! This is always a favorite activity.
We will be celebrating the holidays with our annual Cultural Celebrations sponsored by our PTA. We will be visiting these on Monday afternoon. It is always fund to see how others celebrate holidays.
The Sons of the American Revolution will be judging our poster contest tomorrow. They will also be talking with the children about our government's beginnings and Georgia's role in the Revolution. They will be in "uniform". Be sure to ask your child about this!
